Boiler Upgrade Scheme 2026
Boiler Upgrade Scheme 2026: amount, eligibility, sunset and stacking with the other live grants.
The grant
£7,500to£7,500(ASHP or GSHP). £5,000 for a biomass boiler in rural eligible cases, and £2,500 for an air-to-air heat pump (grant category added 28 April 2026). From 21 July 2026, off-gas-grid homes running on oil or LPG get an extra £1,500 on an air or ground source heat pump, taking the grant to £9,000; that uplift runs until March 2027. Paid to the MCS-certified installer who deducts it from the homeowner invoice.
Eligibility
- Owner-occupier or private-rented property in England and Wales.
- Replacing a fossil-fuel heating system (gas, oil, LPG, coal or electric).
- Installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant on your behalf.
The 28 April 2026 amendment removed the old EPC preconditions. A valid Energy Performance Certificate is no longer required, and outstanding loft or cavity-wall insulation recommendations are no longer a barrier. Where a current EPC exists it is used as evidence of the property; where none exists the installer supplies alternative proof of the existing fuel, typically a recent utility bill plus photographs of the current heating system.
Process and timeline
Installer applies on the homeowner's behalf via the Ofgem BUS portal. Voucher issued in 5 working days; valid for 3 months; commissioning paperwork submitted within 3 months of install.
Run dates
The 28 April 2026 amendment extended the scheme to 2030, aligning it with the private-rented EPC C horizon; treat 2030 as the planning horizon for the current scheme.
